“The people of Texas are informed that in accordance with a Proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and free laborer.”

Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19, marks the day in 1865 when the last enslaved people in the U.S. were finally freed—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
It’s a powerful reminder of freedom delayed, the resilience of Black communities, and the ongoing journey toward justice.

Juneteenth is more than a date, it’s a day to honor the strength, culture, and contributions of Black communities, and to reflect on the ongoing work for equity and liberation.
